Every Day, 10 Children in Gaza Lose Their Legs
Casal dels Infants – Children in Gaza have become the most tragic victims of the ongoing Israeli military aggression since October 2023. In its latest report released on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, the United Nations (UN) stated that an average of 10 children lose one or both legs every day due to the relentless attacks.
The UN Office for the Human Rights of Palestinians reported that around 134,105 people, including more than 40,500 children in Gaza, have sustained new injuries during the war. About 25 percent of them are believed to have permanent disabilities and require long-term rehabilitation.
In addition to amputations, over 35,000 Gazans have suffered significant hearing loss due to the constant exposure to powerful explosions. Israeli air and ground strikes have created horrific living conditions for civilians, especially children and people with disabilities.

The UN-led Global Protection Cluster emphasized that “there is no safe space in Gaza.” Nearly two years of intense conflict have completely destroyed the protective environment for the elderly and those with disabilities.
The report also highlighted severe damage to the healthcare system. Only 47 percent of hospitals are partially functioning. Systematic attacks on hospitals, ambulances, and medical personnel have killed over 1,580 healthcare workers and 467 humanitarian staff. Rubble and unexploded ordnance buried beneath 50 million tons of debris have further increased the risk for war victims, especially those with disabilities.
Israel launched its large-scale assault on Gaza on October 7, 2023, in response to a surprise operation by Palestinian resistance fighters. Since then, more than 58,000 Palestinians have been killed, the majority of whom are women and children.
UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini warned that the war has escalated beyond a humanitarian disaster. In a speech at the Emergency Conference of Nations held in Bogotá, he stated:
“Entire families, entire neighborhoods, entire generations are being wiped out in Gaza. This is not just a humanitarian catastrophe, it is a crisis for the rules-based international order.”
