Indonesian National Police Dismiss Kompol Cosmas Dishonorably After Arfan Kurniawan Incident
Casal dels Infants – The Police Code of Ethics and Professional Commission (KKEP) officially imposed a dishonorable discharge (PTDH) on Kompol Cosmas Kaju Gae. He served as Commander of the 4th Mobile Brigade Regiment. The commission found him guilty of a serious violation after the incident that claimed the life of online motorcycle taxi driver Arfan Kurniawan during a violent protest in Central Jakarta.
“Dishonorable discharge as a member of the police,” declared the Chair of the KKEP panel during a virtual hearing.
A Mobile Brigade armored vehicle allegedly ran over Arfan Kurniawan during the demonstration, causing his death. The tragedy sparked outrage, particularly among online driver communities, who demanded transparency and accountability from law enforcement.

Representatives of the community expressed grief and called for justice. “We hope no more lives will be lost due to excessive actions by the authorities. Justice must be upheld,” said one protest coordinator.
The Police’s Professional Division (Propam) divided the case into two categories. Two officers, including Kompol Cosmas and Bripka Rohmat (the driver of the armored vehicle), were classified as committing serious violations. Officials deemed the other five officers to have committed moderate violations.
Serious violations can result in dishonorable discharge and criminal prosecution, while moderate violations may lead to disciplinary sanctions such as special placement, transfer or demotion, delayed promotion, or postponed training.
The case has drawn significant public attention. Many view the firm action against Cosmas as crucial to restoring public trust in the police.
Several parliament members urged transparency in the legal process and demanded accountability without shielding anyone. “This incident must serve as a serious lesson. The law cannot be seen as only applying to ordinary citizens while officers remain untouchable,” said one legislator.
The victim’s family and civil society groups hope the case will become a turning point for stronger oversight within the police force. Observers view transparent law enforcement as essential to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
