2-Year-Old Toddler with the Highest IQ: Already Able to Read!
Casal dels Infants – A two-year-old boy from England, Joseph Harris-Birtill, has earned the title of the toddler with the highest IQ in the world. At such a young age, Joseph is already capable of reading entire books fluently, an extraordinary achievement for a child his age.
According to Science Alert, Joseph is currently learning Morse code and the Greek alphabet, and he has shown a strong interest in the periodic table of elements. His unique talents have attracted significant attention, especially from his parents, Rose and David. They contacted the UK branch of Mensa for guidance on how to nurture Joseph’s potential to the fullest.

Mensa, an international organization for individuals with high IQs, not only offered support but also welcomed Joseph as their youngest member. He officially joined Mensa at the age of 2 years and 182 days, achieving the record for the youngest member with the highest IQ. This surpassed the previous record held by Isla McNabb from the United States, who joined at 2 years and 195 days in 2023.
To become a Mensa member, candidates must pass a rigorous IQ test. Joseph successfully completed this test at a remarkably early age, proving his exceptional intelligence.
His mother, Rose, shared his achievements with Vicki Newman from Guinness World Records: “It’s clear he is an extraordinary little being. He started rolling over at 5 weeks old and spoke his first word at 7 months. By 1.5 years old, he was able to read his first book aloud from beginning to end.”
Even more astonishing, by the age of two, Joseph could read aloud for 10 minutes straight. He was also able to count to 10 in five different languages and count forwards and backwards beyond 100.
Typically, children say their first word around 12 months, and full reading ability usually develops around age five. Joseph’s advanced skills far exceed these averages, making his case truly rare and extraordinary.
Rose hopes that Joseph’s remarkable achievements will give him confidence and pride as he grows up.
“This is an incredibly rare honor, and all the praise rightfully belongs to him,” she proudly stated.
Toddlers with exceptionally high IQs like Joseph are extremely rare worldwide. It is estimated that only about 5 to 10 million toddlers are born with high intellectual intelligence. Both genetic and environmental factors are believed to play significant roles in developing extraordinary intelligence like Joseph’s.
