Prabowo on Food Poisoning: MBG Success Rate Hits 99.99%
Casal dels Infants – President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, responded to reports of food poisoning incidents related to the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG). During the opening of a plenary cabinet meeting in Jakarta on Monday (May 5), Prabowo emphasized that the number of poisoning cases was extremely small in comparison to the total number of program beneficiaries.
“There were indeed some cases of food poisoning reported today. Out of over three million recipients, if I’m not mistaken, fewer than 200 experienced symptoms. Only five people required hospitalization,” said Prabowo.
Based on the data, Prabowo stated that the MBG program’s success rate could be considered as high as 99.99%. He estimated that only about 0.005% of the total recipients showed symptoms of food poisoning.

“So, roughly 200 people had stomach discomfort or food poisoning symptoms. That’s out of more than three million recipients. This means our success rate stands at 99.99%,” he noted.
Prabowo expressed appreciation for the work of National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Head Dadan Hindayana and the entire team responsible for the implementation of the MBG program. However, he also cautioned that such success should not lead to complacency.
“I appreciate that the BGN chief and his team have said, ‘Sir, our target is zero deviation, zero mistakes.’ And we all understand that achieving this is no easy task,” Prabowo remarked.
The President stressed the importance of maintaining the quality and safety of food distributed through the MBG program, particularly since it targets schoolchildren across various regions. He called for tighter control over food preparation, distribution, and monitoring processes.
“This isn’t just about statistics, it’s about public trust. We must ensure the food provided is truly safe, healthy, and suitable for consumption,” he added.
Prabowo emphasized that the program’s high success rate is commendable. However, he stressed that protecting the health and safety of the public must remain the top priority.
