“I have been fully briefed on the tragic shooting in Minneapolis, Minnesota,” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social on Wednesday (August 27, 2025).

“The FBI responded immediately and is on the scene. The White House will continue to monitor this terrible situation. Please join me in praying for everyone involved!” Trump said.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz also issued a statement on platform X. He said officials briefed him on the shooting at Annunciation Catholic School, and he pledged to keep the public updated as the investigation progressed.
“I am praying for our children and teachers whose first week of school was shattered by this horrific act of violence,” Walz said, expressing his sympathy.
The incident occurred in the morning local time, sparking widespread panic. Subsequently, initial reports confirmed that the shooting killed two people and injured dozens of others. Meanwhile, authorities stated that they had contained the suspect and eliminated any active threat to the community.
The tragedy came just days after a series of false reports about active shooters on college campuses across the country, further heightening public anxiety.
Annunciation Catholic School serves students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Parents evacuated their children in school uniforms, holding their hands as they left the premises.
Emily Feste, a local resident, shared that her husband, a firefighter, had received an emergency call about the shooting. “My nephew goes to school there. About 15 minutes ago, we got word that they were safe. But this is truly horrifying and terrifying,” she said emotionally.
This incident adds to the growing list of mass shootings in the United States, many of which occur in public spaces, including schools. Parents are once again raising concerns about the safety of their children’s education, while local communities have begun holding prayer vigils for the victims.
