All three eventually admitted to inventing the rumors during police questioning.
In an official statement, police reiterated that alcohol caused Yu Menglong to fall accidentally, not any criminal act. A comprehensive investigation, including crime scene analysis, forensic tests, CCTV reviews, and witness interviews, supported this conclusion.
Yu Menglong’s management team also released a statement from his mother on September 16, 2025, urging the public to stop spreading speculation and clarifying that her son’s death was purely accidental. Fellow actors and colleagues soon poured in their support. They urged people to use social media responsibly and prevent it from becoming a platform for harmful rumors.
On September 21, 2025, the Chaoyang branch of the Beijing Public Security Bureau finalized and publicly announced the results of the investigation. The police have formally informed the family of the findings. They also reminded citizens to use social media responsibly and avoid being provoked by baseless rumors.
